Obviously it's not my day - I downloaded Belarc and find that it does scan the computer and make a file in the parent directory. However, it does not appear on screen as I don't have the correct program to open a filename with the extension .BCI - anyone have a clue why this extension is used and which program is used to view it?

It should open a html file in our browser file:///c:/Program%20Files/Belarc/Advisor/System/tmp/(Davesmedion).html

One of these days I will learn to search this most helpful forum, I found the answer, it was looking for Firefox whereas I now use NYie - soon altered thanks to a previous contribution by a user - my thanks to him
