beginner needs advice on wireless router

I know I may be covering old ground here but I am about to connect my laptop to my new broadband connection which I receive through my BT phone line.
The laptop is fitted with wireless lan 802.11b/g so does that mean I need a router of the same speed or does the router speed not matter(in other words what router do I need to make my Broadband connection run at its optimum) I'm looking at a Netgear firewall router but not quite sure which model will suit best.

Yes, it does feel like old ground! ;-)

Any standard 802.11g ADSL modem/router will suffice (depending on quality of course).
