Is BB always connected?

Just curious: If I haven't logged on to my ISP, but my BB modem is connected and running (2 green lights, 2 green arrows), can anything get to and from my PC?

For instance, does Windows update utility run if I'm connected but not logged on; can malaware use my computer to send emails if I'm connected but not logged on; etc.?

If you are on ADSL and have a MODEM then nothing can get in until you log on.

If you are on ADSL and have a ROUTER (or use CABLE - i.e. Telewest or NTL) then you are connected as soon as the PC starts to boot into Windows.

The two dark green arrows just show the modem has a connection back to the exchange.

They flash light green when you are connected and data is being transfered.

Thanks. That's satisfied my curiosity!
