Battery failure??

  Dalmation 10:09 22 Feb 08

When turning on my laptop yesterday at the socket, there was a bleeping sound and I could not turn the laptop on at the power button. When removing the battery I was able to use the laptop normally. Does this mean that the battery has failed?

Another problem is that I now cannot access my home page (TalkTalk). The page shows 'My account' and I have to use the internet from that page.

The laptop is an Acer TravelMate 4101LCi and is nearly three years old.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Possibly not:

1) Remove the battery.

2) With the mains adaptor DISCONNECTED, and the battery removed, press and hold the power on button for 30 seconds.

3) Replace the battery

4) Connect the mains lead, and check to see if the battery is charging (might take a good while before it shows via the Acer utilities panel

What address do you have your home page set to? And of course you can use the Internet from any starting point.

Thanks crosstrainer - seems to have resolved the problem.
Thanks also to Sea Urchin - somehow or other I have now been able to set up my home page successfully.
Many thanks both of you.
