Basic wi-fi kit required - recommendations please?

I will soon be moving to a house which has NTL/Virgin 2MB broadband and wish to set up a wi-fi connection for my desktop pc.I have little knowledge in this area and would be very grateful for any recommendations (low budget please!). I have done some research and have seen wireless-g router/modem plus pci card for about £60 from the likes of Belkin/Linksys etc. I have no need for video/audio streaming, so speed not essential. What is the normal range of these devices? About 20 metres through one ceiling and one wall any problem? I understand WPA encryption is preferable to WEP, do most boxes have this?

Your cost to include a PCI wireless card sounds about right.

Yes make sure you set security using WPA, WEP is easily cracked in approx 5 minutes. All new routers will allow you to set as WEP or WPA.
