Have you tried booting into safe mode by tapping F8 (F5 on some machines) and trying a system restore. Google shows that it could be bad driver, ram etc. Not very specific.

thanks..

F8 is how I have tried to get into safe mode but it just goes to blue screen again

I'd check if it was failing ram first. Try with one module of ram to see if it will at least boot up. If not try another module in the same slot and try again. This will show either the ram is ok or not.

thanks Dave
will get someone to help me tomorrow as not happy messing about inside in case I do something wrong.
will let you know how it goes :)

OK. Another thought is it could be a failing PSU (Power Supply Unit). Try booting up the PC with only the keyboard, mouse and obviously the monitor connected. Remove any other peripheral especially a non powered usb hub. See if the PC boots properly.

Looks like Faulty RAM

If you have more than one tick, Try just one stick at a time

Hello woodchip, I've already suggested that. Poster not confident at the moment.
How are you? Wish you a very Merry Christmas and also to Petulant.
Doing Santa's duty at the moment and looking foreward to 06:00 hrs tomorrow morning!
