Bad memory module?

Hi all,

To follow on from my previous thread.

Here are my specs...

P4 3.2 Ghz, 6800GT AGP card, 24 bit sound card, 1 gig Memory, 550W PSU, Windows XP Home.

Basically, the pc has been performing quite badly. Just a lot slower than what you would expect from a pc with specs like these. reported poor performance for system, memory and graphics.

Anyway, the pc has two sticks of 512 mb ram.

So I ran the memory test here... click here ... for about 3 hours and it reported three errors.

Could this be showing me that one of the memory modules is bad?

Could this be causing the low performance?

Yes it would make the pc lag a bit, normally throwing up errors (but not always), if the windows mem test identified the particular stick of memory, remove, check if it's under warranty and send it back.

A bad stick of memory can cause havoc on any pc whilst being a pain to track down.

Seems like the bad memory is the issue.

I have removed one of the modules and now get very good results on pcpitstop.

So I guess its back to the shop with this memory stick!

Thanks for the help :-)
