"Bad Image Checksum"- Windows won't load

  Polyglot 10:02 18 Oct 06

When I attempt to start my PC, I get to the Windows XP screen with no problems. The system then sticks on the Windows XP screen, "loading" for about 5-10 minutes.This screen then disappears and I get the following message:

STOP:C0000221 {BadImageChecksum}
The image SHDOCVW.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum.

I have Windows XP Home. Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks very much. I bought my PC ex-rental and an XP disc "wasn't part of the deal", in the retailer's words so I'm a bit stuck.

Thankyou all the same

i believe there is a way round it by running sfc and pointing the machine at file i386 in the system, which contains system info.
