Backup Windows XP Updates

I want to format my computer and re-install everything to start from scratch again. However, as my original version of XP that came with the computer is pre-SP2 I dont want to have to go to the hassle of downloading all the updates again (especially considering Im still ok a 56k connection!). Im quite sure (but could be wrong) that I saw somewhere an option to backup your XP updates? Did I imagine this, or is there a way around my problem?

You can slipstream SP2 into XP and that will take care of the majority of your problem. You then burn a CD of the combined entity.

Any other updates can only be backed up if they have been downloaded as files, as opposed to installing them directly from the Internet.

Either way, they would have to be reinstalled.
