I posted this sometime 20 minutes.

I've had a computer about 15 yrs and apart from saving photos to CD'ds have never felt the need to back-up. However all my friends tell me that I should use Lacie, Iomega or Maxtor external HDD?

If I do. Do I also need to buy something like. Acronis TruImage or Norton Ghost?

If my computer crashes can I just press a button on the external drive and restore everything??

In the post that got ignored I mentioned €dstow who appears to be an expert if I caused offence I appologise

I can't find your other post.

You could use Windows backup but you would be better off using Acronis or Ghost as they create a complete image of your drive. You can recover individual files from the image but if things go really wrong, you can boot with the CD and completely restore your drive.

You can also schedule images to be created automatically, without having to remember yourself.
