Backup confusion

What files do i need to backup to disk in case of computer failure. I have roxio backup software but do i really need to use loads of disks to backup everything even if i have all original application disks? What i would like to do is backup only those updates to drivers, windows etc. that have been done since first loading original software.

Usually you don't need the application files as, as you say, you have the CDs for those.

The only way that I know of, to back up your drivers and Window updates, is to have an Image of your 'C' drive. However, I don't know if the Roxio software can do this somewhat specialist job. You really need Norton's Ghost or the Acronis True Image for this.

Don't forget to back up your personal files, usually in 'My Documents'.

Thanks ancient learner. I'll check out norton ghost as i use their virus software. Is this basically 'cloning' my disk? In which case will I need an external hard drive?
