i have got a compaq presario and on compqs they have "D" drive as recovery partion so does that mean that the back up drive is "C"? I want to backup my files so which drive do i do it on?

A recovery partition is used to boot from when the machine fails and you want to reload to factory settings. Your C:/ drive will be where Windows is sat and if you want to backup I suggest you use a CD writer or get partition magic and partition the C:/ drive. Thing is if you do that and the drive dies...so does the backup.
