Backing up my drivers

Please help me to back up my drivers.
I have pinnacle software.
Do I do it though "create data disc" or backup your files option.
Do I copy the whole drivers folder or just the motherboard, video, sound etc separately.
And Is it best to copy them to cd/rw or to dvd/rw.

I copied the drivers folder once before, before i had a reinstall and when i went to install them, they were not recognised. So I did something wrong, and I don't want to do that again.

Thanks for any advise.
