backing up to external hard drive

  that man@ 20:10 26 Jan 07

I have just a bought an external hard drive after realising that my laptop's drive only had 10gb free. So i want to back up the operating system and the program files into one partition on the 250gb drive that i have bought. In the second partition i want to put non essential stuff like music and photos. So i need free software that is easy to use and can allow me to create partitions on the external drive. Norton ghost is a little too complicated for me.

Norton Ghost does not create partitions.

Why do you think that you need to partition it?

I'm thinking one partition for the essential stuff- the operating system and the program files and another partition for videos, music and photos - stuff that i can delete if i was ever to fill up the external hard drive. something wrong with my logic?

Partitions are so last century.

Why not just create folders for what you want to store?

I guess i could do that.
