I am using XP and Mozilla Firefox version 1.0.7
How do I back up the emails received or sent to place them on my external hard drive.
Where are these files on the system kept?

Firefox is the browser, surely you mean Mozilla Thunderbird; click here

Or you can just select Save As or drag and drop the emails directly from TBird into a folder.

Just `Save As`, perhaps I'm thinking of OE for the `drag and drop method`, doesn't work in TBird

What you require is Mozbackup

Sorry I meant Thunderbird.
Doing the Save-As picks one at a time, is there a way to select a bunch of emails together and Save them to the hard drive?

Try this:

Drill down through these folders:

Documents & settings> Your name> Application data> Thunderbird> Profiles> Sqra9mfu.default> Mail> Local Folders> Your POP3 etc

Hightlight one email, hold down shift and use your cursor to hightlight the emails and move to the desired folder.

I can confirm that I have used Mozbackup and it works beautifully.
Before using Acronis to restore an earlier image I used Mozbackup to save my emails (and Firefox bookmarks etc.) to my ext HD.
After the restoration I imported them back into T'bird and Firefox - absolutely no probs.

Why?

Firefox is now at version 2.0.0.6, as is Thunderbird.

New versions are normally issued for security reasons.
