We have the trojan horse Backdoor.Optix in the system restore files. Avg6 won't heal it and won't move to virus vault because it's in a restore\temp file.

We've tried restoring back to before we got infected but it disappears then reappears.

Any ideas please...? Thanks everyone

Forgot to say, running ME !

Turn off system restore to flush the infected restore point, re-run AVG to check all is clear then re-activate System Restore.

Thanks Maj, will let you know soon...:)

1. Right click the My Computer icon on the Desktop and click on Properties.

2. Click on the Performance tab.

3. Click on the File System button.

4. Click on the Troubleshooting tab.

5. Put a check mark next to 'Disable System Restore'

6. Click the 'OK' button.

7. You will be prompted to restart the computer. Click Yes

Thank you, that worked. Is it normal to lose all previous restore points when you do this?

I'm afraid so, bfc_tangerine, it's the only way to clear a virus from there as they're protected files. That's why AVG could do nothing with the virus.

Create a new clean restore point now that all is clear.
