Back up your router settings!

  Halmer 16:12 12 Jul 09

For some reason I lost some of my settings (password etc) in my router.

The thought of filling in the fields again filled me with dread after it took me so long to get the thing working when new. I simply couldn't face pressing the reset button with a ball point pen.

I then recalled that when bored one night I had used the back up facility when exploring the router admin settings.

Bingo - it worked when I simply restored from the router settings by browsing to the saved file.

I'm now up and running again and have done a full virus check etc..

Not a big deal I know but I'm glad that I did it now!

Most routers come with the ability to create a "config bin" file

Name make and model of router will help..

Then you can save the settings and re-load them.

Thanks Halmer!
Glad I read this post as I intend reverting my Speedtouch 585 back to it's original state (having altered it using the DMT tool) and at least I can now be sure of reverting to it's current state if I mess up (which is quite likely!)
Don't think I could have transcribed it all by hand like sunnystaines though, there's yards of it!!

You access it via in explorer address bar

to access the settings (I've changed the password from Admin now)

The go to the 'Administration' tab then 'Back up and Restore'.

There you can create or back up.

I assume that it's similar for other routers if not the same.

Mine's fine now as I have used this facility just to clarify.

Thought the tip might be useful (to back up) for others as it saves re-entering all the fields.
