I've just upgraded to XP (Home Edition). I've extracted the back up utility but the compression option is greyed out. Any way to use compression - or does any one know of a decent free Back Up - I use a ZIP drive

Selecting If possible, compress the backup data to save space compresses the data you are backing up so you can save more data on a tape. If this option is disabled, you do not have a tape drive on your computer or your tape drive cannot handle compressed data.

you could compress the files in a folder by right clicking and selecting "send to/compressed (zipped) folder, then simply drag across to your zip drive (or use whatever backup prog you want.
not exactly the answer you want but maybe a work-around for the time being.

hope this helps
