Avi on a dvd player

Anyone know if its posssible to burn avi files onto a dvd and then play them on a dvd player?

.avi is a windows format file which contains audio and video.

You can't play these on a dvd player but you can get software that can convert the .avi file to an appropriate format which can they be burned on to DVD allowing you to play it on a standard DVD player.

Sorry, don't really know any good freeware\shareware software that can do the convert.

I got a great household DVD player from Novatech, seems to play anything, divx, xvid etc. Only £50 inc. postage.Also, on Ebay a prog that seems convert on the PC for £3.50 to your email!
