I really don't know why you would need to, but yes you can. Just (R) click on the icon in the taskbar and then Shut down AVG control centre. Remember though you are not protected if you do this.

thanks for such a swift response.my reason for asking is some disc programmes say av may interfere with load.perhaps i am naive,but i am learning thanks to this forum

nosmo is correct. Esp when loading drivers it is advisable to disable the AV when installing.

However you should obvious scan the drivers BEFORE you try to install them!!

Disabling AV is the textbook way but I daresay few of us bother EXCEPT when installing fundamentals like [as said above] drivers,OS updates,etc.
