When I run AVG to check for updates it shows

Virus Database
Release Date 17/09/04 in RED.

When I continue with the Update it says

"Your AVG system is up to date and an update is not necessary at this moment. Please try again later. Remember that regular updates are important for your securiy"

Having OKd that it still shows the Virus Database in RED but on a friends computer it shows the date in BLACK?

Am I up to date or not?

Nope - Up to date is 21/09/2004

leo49, that's today. I did an update this morning around 11am and got no update necessary but still showed the date as 17/09/04 in red. Will try again now. Thanks.

leo49, Just tried that and I am still getting,

"Your AVG system is up to date and an update is not necessary at this moment. Please try again later. Remember that regular updates are important for your securiy"

It is dated 17/09/04.

there was definitely an update released today, perhaps an uninstall and reinstall would fix it.

Or manually download the update bin from Grisoft and copy it into the updates folder and see if AVG picks it up that way.

Have you got the latest version of free AVG installed? If you bring up the dialogue box it should say under info.

Version, 6.0.767 date 2/9/2003

Virus database. 514 21/9/2004

John, yes it says exactly that under Info. But it still lists it as 17/09/04 under Virus Database and still in RED.

I have now uninstalled my existing AVG and downloaded afresh from grisoft.com with a new Serial Number. So I should have the latest version. It still says 17/09/04 in red and an update is not required.

Fortunately, it is still picking up the 4 or 5 emails with viruses that I seem to get daily.
