I think it slows your computer down a bit, Put it on my grandaughters computer,But I am quite happy with AVG.And then , read in one of the forums that AVG are going to start charging,That should get rid of 99% of us.

I have AVG at the moment and get a message that the free version will be discontinued next year. Is this correct or is there a new free version coming?

  chrisjohn 18:47 04 Dec 06

which one slows pc down?

  Belatucadrus 18:50 04 Dec 06

NO, VAG aren't discontinuing the freebie, what's coming to an end is support and development for version 7.1, the new one version 7.5 is already available for download click here .

  SANTOS7 18:50 04 Dec 06

GRISOFT is announcing a new version of the AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. This new 7.5 version with improved performance and full compatibility with the latest Windows Vista version is available. Users that are using AVG Free 7.1 will be provided with a specific dialog, within the next few weeks, with the opportunity to choose the right option fulfilling their needs. AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 15th of Jan 2007.

Sorry for typo, VAG is Volkswagen Audi Group , who have nothing to do with it, should read AVG.

  Allyginger 18:52 04 Dec 06

Right AVG are stopping the 7.1 anti-virus in January. Everybody should have by then upgraded to the 7.5 anti-virus.Which will still be free. You only pay for the professional software.

Regarding which is best AVAST or AVG I don't know if theres a concerted opinion on that. I use AVG and it keeps my PC virus free so I feel no need to change. If however I started to have problems I would certainly consider a change.

So unless you have a problem with AVG I see no point in changing, of course its up to you some people seem to think its got a better interface.
