Can anyone comment on this rescue tool from AVG.

I ditched AVG some while ago, but have just come across the above which is not linked to having AVG installed.

"I ditched AVG some while ago" - if that means you uninstalled it it appears it wasn't completely removed. You need to run the AVG Remover Utility.

Not quite with you there.
It is completely uninstalled. I got the info from elsewhere not via any remnants of AVG.

Sorry I appear to have misunderstood you - when you said you had just come across this I thought it was on your PC and I was suggesting a way to get rid.

My solution to resolving intransigent malware issues (should I ever get any), is to roll back to a (much) earlier Acronis image and then update as necessary again. Much cleaner and safer than poking around in the registry.

Having said that, the AVG tool is another string to the bow (as are other things like BartPE)
