this morning i bit the bullet and upgraded to free version, during the installation it reported a conflict with mse and asked for it to be uninstalled, would this be correct?

AVG and MSE are both anti-virus products and you should only have one installed for the reason of them conflicting.

I believe having two AV's on the same PC can cause conflict problems, my experience with AVG's latest version has not been good, personally I would stick with MSE ...alB

Only one AV at a time.
I have used AVG through its various versions for several years including the latest version -and have had no problems. The choice is yours.
