Automatically upgrade television?

I always set my computers to notify me before installing anything for obvious reasons.

I noticed the option on my new Sony TV to disable automatic updating.

I have got to thinking: is this wise?

I am told by the local dealer that 'they' are making loads of changes at the moment and switching the frequencies of the channels.

I don't like the idea of an external body making changes to my equipment when I don't know what (or even if) they are doing.

What do you do?

If you leave it on auto update it will
1. update software to overcome any glitches in the system (this is quite rare nowadays but a couple of years ago when digiboxes first came out it was common.

2. may also rescan for extra channels that are being introduced.

You should have no worries about automatic updating on your television - it's a standard and widely used feature by manufacturers in conjunction with the transmitter operating companies.

If you go to the Freeview website, it details service updates. See:

Many EPGs are updated overnight providing a set top box or TV are left on Standby.
