Automatic Update Issues

Hi, The yellow update Icon has appeared on my task bar informing me that there are updates ready to download. However after installing the update I get the following message: Security Update for Microsoft. NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366)"could not be Installed," therefore the update notice keeps on reappearing. Is there any way of stopping this?

I have Windows XP Home. Sevice pack 2.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Turn off auto updates in control panel.

Yes, I've done that and it works, however my McAfee security centre say's I'm not fully protected. How important are these updates anyway?

You must keep it updated, regually check for updates and download then manually now that auto updates is switched off.

Solve the problem and turn auto-updates back on.

If you configure Windows Update from Security Center to Notify Me of Downloads but don't Install them then, when you click on the icon, you have a choice of Express or Custom.

Chooose Custom, select only the updates you require and then click OK.

A panel will appear offering the choice of being reminded of unwanted updates or not to be notified again. Choose the latter option.

i had this and cured mine by going to add and remove programes ,removing the version of framework 1 and any other framework 1 additional software updates. Then went to Microsoft Update and ran it ,it then said i needed an update of Framework 1.1 so i downloaded it and that annoying update kb928366 installed itself.
