auto logging in to the forum

This was posted by the F.E. in another thread and I hope he does not mind me bringing it here.
It keeps you logged in so that you do not have to log in every time you visit the forum.
(If you left-click on your username when you're logged in you'll be presented with your profile, and there's an 'auto-login' option. Tick that and your computer will remain logged in, as long as you don't use the 'log out' link. Instead, just close your browser, and next time you visit you'll find you're already logged in.)

This feature is not 100% seemingly, I have yet to get it to work.
Ticking the box, does not stay ticked,
Ticking the box and then 'Update' brings the message in red telling some bounder is already using my user name and password
-Is this a case of Forum I/D theft I ask my self?
