Auto hide task bar in Win xp

Despite having the box "Auto hide the task bar" ticked in "Task bar and Start Menu Properties" in Windows xp, every time I boot up the tick has been taken out and I have to start all over again. Anybody know of a registry entry I could change to make this setting permanent?

This may sound stupid, but did you click apply to apply the changes when you checked the box?

Yes I did that. Incidently I get the same problem with the status bar in the "View" drop down menu in IE6.

I am having same problem with XP Home Edition, both Auto Hide & Quick Launch are unticked after reboot, both had ticks put in and applied.
I to would like to find the registry entry to cure this annoying problem.
