How do I set up automatic disconnection when I close my Internet browser?

  LeadingMNMs 19:51 31 Dec 03

Open Internet Options in Control Panel and go to the connections tab. Choose the connection you are using and select settings. On the next screen click on the advanced box next to the password field. On this screen ensure that the box that says disconnect when a connection is no longer needed is ticked.

Hope this helps

Hello Leading MNMs

I have done what you suggested but no joy

However, if you go to Outlook Express and click on the Send/Receive button the info panel on messages being sent and received comes up.

About a third of the way down is a check box to enable Hang Up When Finished.

But be warned that if you do enable it your connection will cease when OE has finished sending and collecting...

If you are feeling brave:-
Shut down Internet Explorer and follow these instructions:

Start Regedit and got to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\RemoteAccess\Profile\<Connection>

Now look at the following DWORDS.

EnableExitDisconnect
EnableAutodisconnect

If either one has the data of 00 00 00 00, right click the value and select Modify.
Change the data to 01 00 00 00.

Also check this registry key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

Look at the DWORD EnableAutodisconnect

If this value has the data of 00 00 00 00, change it to 01 00 00 00

Remember to reboot the computer.

Thank you Gongoozler,

There was no DWORD EnableAutodisconnect under the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings but making the first modification has solved my problem.
