Has anyone noticed that when you start to type in a search box (Like Google)they helpfully (?) bring up a list of suggestions.

It used to be the case that it would bring up all the previous searches that start with that letter (from your own memory).

Amazon is doing it now along with some others.

I am trying to ascertain if it is them or me.

If it is them, is there a way to get back to the old system?

I hoppe I have explained this well enough!

On the google search page click on preferences then tick button for 'Provide query suggestions in the search box' and click on the save preferences box.

I take it it is something new because as soon as I had followed your instructions I got my history back.

Now all I've got to do is figure out how to change Amazon back.

I must say it would help if these sites had warned us this was going to change!
