Audio recording suddenly stops

  hastelloy 30 Jun 11

I get the same problem with both Audacity and Magix Audio Cleaning Lab.

I play audio into the line-in socket (been doing this for ages) from various devices.

After 2 or 3 minutes (sometimes less, sometimes more) the recording stops although the audio still plays through the speakers without a break.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling software and hardware and system restore but to no avail.

I have another problem which started at about the same time Live Messenger. I can't see how this can be connected though.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Try recording with any other programs, such as Live Messenger, that may try to go online closed down. If Live Messenger does have a problem, its misbehaving could be sufficient to interrupt the recording.

Clutching at straws... is it perhaps that you are running out of disc space, and there is not enough space for the temp file created when recording?

Simsy - thanks for the thought but my C drive has over 200GB free and my D drive over 400.

mgmcc - I had thought that the problems might have a common cause, but couldn't see how. I'm almost ashamed to admit that it hadn't occurred to me that one could be causing the other. I have completely uninstalled all of Windows Live Essentials and no longer have a recording problem. So many thanks for putting me right.
