Audio question, sound card capabilities?

Hi everyone, have recently got a decent wide screen monitor so thought I would upgrade my speakers also.
I have an ASUS P5VD2-MX SE motherboard with onboard Realtek HD sound card.
How do I find out the spec for this card or can anyone suggest some good suitable speakers, I
have some reasonable speakers but ugly looking things.
What I want really is some nice neat ones with
good quality sound don`t need to be top of the range.
Any suggestions please.

Thanks MAT ALAN, that would be the sort of thing I
am looking for, there seems to be endless choices on the net. What I really need to know before buying anything is whether my sound card will support it.

Audio Output • SPDIF Out • 5.1 Channels • Line Out

Integrated Audio Intel High Definition Audio Subsystem • ADI 1986A

more than capable of supporting a 2.1 system

Lovely, thanks MAT ALAN exactly what I wanted to know.

I would recommend you get active speakers, they can have more power for their size, by active, they need to be powered usually through the usual plug in transformer, they use electromagnets instead of permanent magnets.

Hi, to let you know the outcome.
I bought the (Active) Creative Inspire T3100 speakers today.
Brilliant! much better than I ever expected.
Thanks again for your advice.
