Audio question

Hi,

I'm not exactly sure how to word this but i'll try.

Is it possible to take an audio file and then split it up so you can play the words on their own, or the backing track on its own or control their volumes.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks

You can chop up a recording (like splicing a tape), but I assume you want to separate the violins from the tuba from the drums as it were.

I don't think this is possible. Though they may well be recorded as separate tracks and mixed together when they are mixed and you receive them as an audio file the mixture is just a compound wave form rather than all the component parts. Its a bit like making a cake, once the flour and eggs are mixed you can't get them back out.
