audio crackling on pc

hi. i run my pc through a hifi deck. it sounds great, but if i turn the sound up and listen to say acoustic or orchestral (or anything with silence) i get warping, and a crackling sound when i open an application or browse the web. i've played with the systems audio and the stereo audio to see if its a distortion thing but it doesnt help. im using a creative sounblaster pci, win xp.

any ideas how i can cure it?

Do you have a motherboard with a Via chipset?

This can bring audio problems. Creative has a patch for Live! cards. Enter your model here:

or use the links under Audio Problems from:

bought a new pc, and the problem has gone away ;)

Well that's one solution I suppose...:-)

Could prove expensive if it was the only cure every time....
