audacity speeds up and skips when recording vinyl

  haven't a clue 11:56 17 Feb 05

I am using audacity to record and then export some vinyl recordings to .wav files. However, when I playback the .wav files on every track there are moments when the music either speeds up temporarily or skips a nanosecond. I've checked and the turntable is playing at the correct speed and the tracks themselves are not skipping.
Any clues guys?
