ATX 1.2 PSU with ATX 2.0 Motherboard

I am considering upgrading my PC. I have a 350W Antec PSU which is the ATX 1.2 type which has 20 pin and 4 pin connectors. I am thinking of buying an ASUS P5GD1 motherboard which has a 24 pin connector as well as a 4 pin connector and is ATX 2.0 compliant. I have read on other forums that it is OK for the 20 pin connector on the PSU to be inserted into the 24 pin connector on the motherboard and the 4 pin connector on the PSU into the 4 pin connector on the motherboard. The graphics card I am considering is a Gigabyte Radeon X800XL which does not have a power connector on the card itself, (some X800XL’s do but the Gigabyte one doesn’t). I have also searched the ASUS forums, but can’t find precise reference to this. Does anyone have experience of doing this successfully?
