when you e-mail an attachment to outlook where is it stored on the hard drive?

It stays with the email, unless the recipient saves the attachment to a different place of their choosing - like for instance, a Picture saved to My Pictures.

i asked because my laptop died ,i've managed to remove the hard drive but i cant find a very important attachment,it was a word doc,i've tried searchjng all doc files but can't find it yet i know it was downloaded from the server and was accessable through opening the attachment in outlook, any ideas how i can find it,what extensions are emails saved as ,can i transfer all the emails off the hard drive to another laptop ,if so where are they stored?and where should i send them to? The os on both is win xp pro.

Have you done a Search - Start>Search then type in name of Document, or have you just looked in your Documents folder?

I did a *.doc search of complete hard drive

Might it have been saved as a .txt file?

Outlook emails are stored in *.pst files
The attachments are part of the email

The default location where Outlook 2003 stores your data is in Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst
