ATI Control Panel

I've had a new graphics card installed in my 4 year old Mesh computer running XP(Home)
On boot up I get a message 'ATI control panel failed to initialize because no ATI driver is installed or ATI driver not working properly. The ATI control panel will now exit'
There is an option not to display this notice again.
However, the computer boots up and seems to run OK, and I'm not aware of anything not working as it should.
I'm afraid all this is beyond me, and I'd be grateful for a simple explanation of what it all means.
Regards,

tristar

Might be worth getting the latest catalyst and drivers from ati.com

Hi, run CCleaner click here this fixes a multitude of problems.

Have run ccleaner, don't know yet if it's made a difference.
I see from Belarc that I have a NVIDIA Ge Force FX 5200 graphics card fitted.

Download Drive Cleaner Pro (freeware) from:

and use it to remove any ATI drivers or remnants.

Then check that your GeForce card is working properly.

May be worth downloading the latest nVidia drivers from:

You may also need to Remove any Catalyst software in Add/Remove Programs.

I called the repair shop that installed my new graphics card. Apparently they don't install the ATI control panel software, and the 'nag screen' that appears is because of this. As I don't need the control panel I can opt not to have the message displayed, which is what I'll do - but I will check I have the latest driver.

Thank you for your suggestions and help.

>>Apparently they don't install the ATI control panel software,>>

The reason for this is simple - you state you have an nVidia GeForce FX5200 graphics card installed.

That will use nVidia drivers from the link I provided above.

ATi (now part of AMD) is a different graphics chipset manufacturer.
