I'm putting a new system together and was looking to get an AthlonXP 2600+ Barton core with 512KB cache. However I noticed I could get the Thoroughbred version with 256KB cache for about £15 - £20 cheaper. I havent a clue how much difference the extra cache would make and dont know whether to go for the thoroughbred core. Any advice. The PC will be used for photo editing and DVD burning etc running WinXP home and 512MB PC2700 DDR Ram. Cheers

The Barton core has a slightly slower clock speed but the larger cache means it will perform faster. I would go for the Barton core but you would probably need to run benchmarks to tell the difference.

I am sure that there isnt a barton XP2600, i think you mean the XP2500 which you can overclock very well unlike the XP2600.
