ATA won't boot without IDE

I have recently installed two serial ATA drives one as the boot drive and the other for backups.i want to use my old IDE drive on another computer but when I disconnect it
The machine won’t boot I get a message saying sum thing is sassing .should I set the IDE drive to non in bios.

Try disabling the IDE drive in BIOS.

When you connect a Drive and create partitions, the Master boot record is changed. You cannot see this on the drive, It's the first bits on the drive. And you need software and the know how to edit it. In other words it's the MBR of the drives

If I reinstalled the OS on my ATA drive with the IDE drive not connected would this have the desired affect?

yes you will have to install the O'S on your sata drive.

Do a Repair with the XP CD. boot with it in the comp
