asus nforce drivers or nvidia drivers

  pookie 10:36 24 Dec 03

windows xp home, 9700 ati, asus a7n8x-x mobo with onboard sound, 1024 Mb ram.
I got the above mobo about 1 month ago. i did reformat and installed using the asus mobo nforce2 cd drivers. however the nvidia website has nforce2 drivers version 3.13 dated november 03 (i think my asus cd was an older version). the asus website does not have any recent driver issues.

should I install new drivers from nvidia or stick to the asus ones? if i should use the nvidia ones do i just install them over my existing ones or do i need to reformat and reinstall xp and then use the new nvidia nforce 2 drivers?

many thanks

If you use the NVidia ones then install over the top.

Maybe ask ASUS what they recommend or if its OK to use the NVidia ones. I'm sure the NVidia ones will be OK.

Looking at click here gives the option to load nForce drivers.

Always use the latest drivers available.

nVidia drivers are always fully backward compatible but, in any case, if you do have problems you can always "roll back" the driver in Device Manager.

thanks again - i've downloaded the nvidia nforce2 drivers and saved to cd. it brings up a fuuny looking icon - when i click on it it says 'windows cannot open this file needs to know what program created it............' - i haven't had this before?

What's the extension of the file that you're clicking on?

  pookie 12:47 24 Dec 03

big elf - sorry fair point - 'type of file - 13_WINXP2K_WHQL_ENGLISH File
opens with - Unknown application'

  Big Elf 12:49 24 Dec 03

There should be something after 13_WINXP2K_WHQL_ENGLISH e.g. exe, zip.

I've just done a quick google and it should be exe.
