Asus DRW1604P Query

  ColinScowenUK 20:46 17 Jan 05

Dell Dimension 4200, XP Home, Nero.
Recently installed a new Asus DVD writer. Have noticed a few things and I am not sure if they are deliberate or not.
I cannot rip cd's with this drive. Could I be running into DRM software? I can rip OK with old 32× CD drive. I can also backup purchased discs OK with Asus.
I am starting to get Device i/o errors when I try to read older CDRW's.
Some brand new game discs do not play in this drive. Unreal 2 is an example.
Also, I can't watch DVD's now. The ASUSDVD program installed automatically, but has never worked.
I have downloaded a firmwear update to install.
I don't want to complain if these are things that I should have expected, but if anyone has a similar drive that doesn't have these problems, I would appreciate knowing.

can not help with your problem not familiar with the product but would advise not to do the firmware update as it will probably put the dvd writer to the rubbish bin

I did teh firmware update. ALso removed the Asus DVD viewer, and cleaned up my disks a bit. Seems to work now.
