Associating internet connection with IE icon

I have just installed broadband for a friend (bt alcatel). I can connect to the internet ok by double clicking on the alcatel icon, but i then have to open up the ie browser seperately.
If i just try to connect by just using the ie icon it does not connect (this does not innitiate the connection) as it used to with the old dialup connection.
It must be possible to associate the connection so that opening ie starts the connection process.
This is very difficult to put into words, but i hope you can work out what i mean!
Operating system is XP pro.

Many thanks
Gypsy

Go to control pannel and click on Internet options. Click the connections tab and select always dial my default connection. This will make IE dial every time it is opened.

Many thanks Night Rider, that's sorted it.
