ASP.Net / SQL Server Hosting Recommendations

  CodeMeister 19:28 22 Jan 08

Could anyone please recommend a good hosting company to host a website written in ASP.Net with a SQL Server 2005 database ?

I normally favour Heart Internet, but they don't offer Windows hosting.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions please.

Ah, hold on. I just noticed that you need Server '05 -- Streamline uses Server '03.

I have a reseller account with them and have never had a problem. Their support is excellent.

Hi Kemistri

Were you thinking of Windows Server 2003 ?

That would be fine, but I also need SQL Server 2005 RDBMS.

Yes, I was. I wasn't paying it my full attention at that time of night!

Streamline runs SQL server 2005 on its dedicated server space, but does not state whether the shared space uses it -- it probably does, but you would have to contact Streamline to find out.

None of the other providers that I have used support ASP, unfortunately.

Hi Kemistri,

Thanks for the recommendation for Streamline.

Finding a host for PHP/MySQL seems simple, but finding a good host for Windows seems to be a lot trickier and a lot more expensive when SQL Server 2005 is needed.

Thanks again.

Thanks also to ElanMan for the CSNewMedia recommendation.

The most cost effective hosting seems to be for Virtual Private Servers (VPS).

Trickier and often more expensive -- very true.

Yup, probably one of the reasons why the php / mySQL combo is so popular.

I suspect that SQL Server is not cheap, and the hosting company has to pass this on.
