Anyone else have problems after switching their computers on?
Sometimes it starts ok...
Other time it starts and hangs (just a timer & arrow shown on the screen...
(I usually have to press the famous ctrl-alt-del to get it to restart)
Other times it hangs BUT i get the 3 beeps (Gfx dvr problem?) and it doesn`t load at all...

Any assistance would be gratefully accepted.

Mickey

P.S. System is as follows:
Asus A7VM m/b, xp1088+, 512 ram, DVD and cd-RW,
mouse & keyboard!

When it does start, as an onlinre game progresses my gfx go to bits...
I have to go back out to the desktop to re-load(?) drivers etc, then the gfx are ok (for a while)
I wonder if this has any relevence on my previous problem?

Can you get it to start Ok in Safe mode (ie, no drivers to conflict)?

I can start in the safe mode easily enough, but when I start normally... ARGH!!

The problem seems to be `random` non-starting!
Sometimes it does, and other times it won`t!
Sometimes it won`t start for 3 or 4 tries?

I am confused to say the least.

Thanks (in anticipation...)

It's a long process, but if you can consistently start in Safe Mode then it's likly to be a driver conflict. Question is, which one? Now the recommended way of handling this is (I believe) to choose selective startup from the menu offered when you selected Safe Mode (on f8?). Answer yes to loading each set of drivers until you can replicate the problem.

Personally, though it's not recommended practice, I think I'd try a short cut and remove and reinstall the latest version of your graphics card driver (you can test this by first replacing your existing driver with Windows Standard VGA driver from within Device Manager). The picture will be lousy but if it gives you stability and startup, then you know where the problem is and what to do next.

Is there any other "event" that you can link your problems to, and have you had any memory errors at all?
