Are Writable DVDs readable after an OS upgrade ?

Have previously read in PCA where someone upgraded to Windows XP and found some of their CD-Rs & CDRWs wouldn't read for some reason or another.

I want to burn several gigabytes of archived photos ( tiffs & jpegs )to DVDR & DVDRW on windows Me before formatting and installing XP.

Am I going to be able to read these DVDs under the new OS so I can transfer them back ?

(Feeling a bit nervous...!)

Should to be able to it is the DVD player that reads them not the OS I never had a problem with the CD's that I burnt on win98SE after installing XP
