Hi I am looking to buy a new laptop to be mainly used for viewing and editing photographs and playing a few old games.
will on board graphics do the job or will i need a dedicated graphics card
the 2 laptops i have in mind are click here

The second one would be a better choice as it has 512meg of dedicated graphics memory before it starts using system memory and should be ok for your needs.

yes, and you have no choice with a laptop, other than at the time you buy

I use mine for pretty much what you do and it does the trick admirably!

Its an Acer Aspire 5630, got it a couple of years ago.

"are on boards graphics ok for photo editing" - absolutely. Don't waste your money on 'better' graphics unless you're into gaming / other 3D-intensive tasks. G
