Archiving and reading archived Outlook mail

I run Outlook on Vista. I'm trying to archive all my old email, some with attachments, to an external hard drive. I can get the data to the hard drive where it appears in .pst file format. How can I read these archived mails as no programme seems to handle .pst format?

You have to open your archive.pst file in Outlook.

If it is the same as XP, do the following.

Create a folder on your hard drive, place it (for example) on your desktop.

Open the Outlook program and the folder you created together (Use TILE option)

Highlight the Outlook files you want and drag them to the folder.

They will be saved as an EML file, along with any attachments.

To access these files, you can either click on them to open in outlook,or copy to a word processor, nd treat like any other file.

Terry/Mimosa, thanks for your replies. I finally found the fastest way to achieve what I wanted was to go into Outlook, File/Data File Management - this shows the place where all the Outlook files are stored. I copied this to my external drive. The advantage is that is copies Mail (sent & received) calendar and contacts all in one move.
