I saw this jsut a moment ago whilst looking at my McAfee 'allowed' access' applications. Did the 'Help' thing on it, but what exactly dose it do with regard to the web connection, and should I leave it alone?

Thanks, etc.

I've never heard of this thing before. I have Remote Assistance and suchlike turned off for safety reasons, but this thing: is it a MS data sniffer? I never know WHEN to trust Microsoft!!

If you use the Windows firewall in SP2 then this service must be running, otherwise you can turn it off.

I'm running Win XP SP2 with a third-party firewall and I have this service set to Manual- the computer works fine.

Thanx for that. I've blocked it in McAfee, but do I need to turn it off?

From Octal's link, if you don't use ICS and don't use the Windows firewall, then you can safely set the service to manual.

I have it set to manual and I've never noticed it to be actually running when I look in Services, ie: its never shown as Started.

Setting it to Manual will allow it to start if it's needed by some software/proces.
