Application configuration incorrect - repeatedly

I use Windows XP professional X64 edition, 2003 edition, Service pack 2.

I tried to install Google Drive (and another program, Bryce 7) repeatedly and I got the same error:

"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling this application might fix this problem".

Obviously reinstalling didn't work. So I did the next thing I thought might fix it (as advised by other forums). I installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86).

Same deal, it still doesn't work. Since I'm rather tech noobish, I have no idea what else I should do or try.

I would appreciate any help/advice in layman terms, not programmer language.

Many thanks!

Check windows updates and that you have all your .Net Frameworks installed.

Iskandros,

Perhaps installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 would help?

Peter.
